Exploring Savannah: A Guide To (Some Of) My Favorite Spots
When I moved to Savannah from Seattle in 2019, I had NO idea what to expect. I’d only visited once, and that was for a ridiculously quick stop during a cross-country road trip—essentially just a speedy little detour to visit some cemeteries. So, when we randomly decided to make the move here, I was completely unprepared for the culture shock. and honestly, I’ve been pretty slow to settle in, but…. I’m finally starting to ease into what is known as “Slowvannah” life. This city is moody, romantic, and full of inspiration, and over time, I’ve come to really appreciate its quirky rhythm.
One of my very favorite things about this spooky little city is strolling through the squares, checking out the architecture, and listening to the sound of the church bells ringing. (is that cheesy?) I love taking over-the-top picnics to Forsyth Park, eavesdropping on the tour guides as they lead groups through the neighborhood, popping into the cute shops in the design district, and of course finding my way to a rooftop or patio for a bev and a snack.
As I’ve spent more time in Savannah and watched the city grow, I’ve discovered a handful of spots I keep coming back to—places I frequent often, businesses run by friends, and spots I just can’t get enough of. When I first moved here, I had a hard time finding the types of businesses I was looking for. Websites were scarce, Google hours were (and often still are) off, and many places didn’t have much of an online presence. But things are different now—businesses are easier to discover, but that’s not gonna stop me from sharing a handful of my best spots. These are the places I always take visiting friends and family, but they’re also in my neighborhood or along my favorite walking routes. They’re spots for both locals and visitors alike. And oh my god, you guys, I really had to narrow this down dramatically—expect a round two at some point!
Ology Gallery
Why I love it: Ology Gallery is part of Clayer & Co., a very cool pottery school located near Bonaventure Cemetery. They always have incredible shows—not just ceramics, but all kinds of art.The Stacks Bookstore
Why I love it: A super cozy, independent bookstore with a phenomenal selection of books. The owner and employees are kind, engaging, and eager to share recommendations. It’s diverse and welcoming and has THE best book clubs and events. They’re located on Waters Ave, just a block or two away from a few other cool spots, so take a minute to wander.Sixby
Why I love it: Sixby is a wildly cute neighborhood cafe. They used to have a booth at the farmers market selling their fresh bread (best in town), and when they opened a permanent spot everyone rejoiced. You can walk up for a light brekkie in the courtyard or hang out for one of their fun evening events, many of which include an oyster truck and exceptional wine. It’s a casual spot that gives a super yum experience.Westhouse Parkside
Why I love it: Westhouse Parkside gives all the vibes you want from a little artist-owned shop by the park. Located right by Forsyth Park they have a fun selection of art kits, sustainable clothing, and fairtrade goods. The murals in the shop alone are worth the visit! Owner and artist, Kara Adoff, painted the walls (floor to ceiling) with her three kiddos and the outcome is SO good. Pop by (you might have to DM her for hours), grab some park necessities and snap a few selfies.Eden Supper Club
Why I love it: It’s all good at Eden Supper Club, but if the broccolini is on the menu grab it! The owners are incredible, the staff is fun, the space is dreamy, and the food is perfection. They have a regular happy hour if you just want drinks and light bites, but if you have time, stay for the full experience. You won’t regret it.Flora and Fauna
Why I love it: This is my little neighborhood coffee shop, you’ll find me here way too often! Great pastries and coffee plus a really approachable supper club that I neeeed to try. Pop in for classic pastries, seasonal cakes, and the best grits I’ve ever had.Custard Boutique
Why I love it: Custard is hands down my fave place for clothing and gifts in Savannah. Lots of small, independent brands mixed in with eco-friendly styles. One thing I love is that they don’t shy away from prints, whoever their buyer is has a really fun eye for color and pattern. I always check here when I’m looking for gifts and then generally walk out with something for myself.Over Yonder
Why I love it: Just a casual neighborhood honky tonk, what’s not to love? I don’t actually know if it’s a honky tonk but it’s pretty fun. Great food and music. They have regular line dance lessons and pretty much everyone shows up on a Saturday afternoon to listen to the band, eat burgers, and day drink.
Well, there we have it! My non-extensive list of local Savannah faves. Let me know if you hit up any of these spots!
