Marbled Red Clay and Porcelain Vase
Made using coil and pinch techniques while blending red Georgia clay, dyed porcelain, and stoneware clay bodies. The soft swirls of blues, blacks, and unexpected shocks of orange and pink create a look that reminds me of tiny planets spinning in orbit, all grounded by the warm terracotta of the red clay.
It stands about 9.75" tall and 7" at its widest, holding a larger bouquet beautifully or standing alone as a centerpiece. This technique is one of my favorites, even though it takes a lot of patience to coax the different clay bodies into working together. It’s always worth the effort to see how the colors and patterns come to life and I look forward to sending it off to a special home.
The vase is fully glazed on the inside and holds water for your gorgeous bouquets. I left the exterior unglazed but treated with a light coating of mineral oil to bring out the natural, subtle textures and softness of the clay.
